When do applications close?

Entries for the next Bill Toft Awards close on 31 October.

Will I be contact if my entry is unsuccessful? 

Yes, all entrants will be notified of the outcome by 30 November.

Will a grant be awarded every year? 

There will not necessarily be a grant awarded every year if no entry meets judges’ criteria.

What do I need to include in my application? 

You will need to include a brief description of your broadcasting career, your current broadcasting position and what you intend to use the grant for.

It’s also essential to include an audio or visual compilation of your work.

How do I pay my application fee? 

Bill Toft Awards use PayPal. You will need to set up a PayPal account in order to make your payment, which can be done easily here. Once you’ve completed and submitted your entry form you will be taken to a PayPal payment screen.

What format can my compilation be? 

You can upload a MP4 file attachment or a link to an audio or visual file. This might be a link to a YouTube video, Vimeo video, SoundCloud audio or similar.

What will my entry be judged on?

Entries will be judged against criteria including communication skills, accuracy, clarity, originality, relatability, impact and authority.

The purpose for which the grant will be used will also be a determining factor in the judges’ decision.

How many grants are awarded each year?

One grant will be awarded per year, depending on the quality of the applications

Who will be judging my entry?

The judging panel is made up of established broadcasters from New Zealand
